In an effort to explore the capabilities of the Godot game engine, I embarked on a 30-day journey to create a game from scratch. This endeavor was fueled by a desire to navigate the complexities of game development and challenge myself to build something within a limited timeframe. Despite my initial skepticism about Godot's potential, the experience proved to be both enlightening and humbling. While Godot didn't transform me into an indie studio overnight, it did offer a more accessible gateway into game development, particularly for solo creators. The engine's lightweight nature and open-source community provided a refreshing alternative to the complexities of triple-A pipelines. However, the process was not without its challenges. I encountered bugs, technical debt, and the need for centralized control, all of which tested my skills and patience. Despite the setbacks, the final product, a 20-minute game, served as a testament to my growth as a developer. While it may not be a masterpiece, the experience of building it from scratch was invaluable. In the end, Godot proved to be a powerful tool that made the game development process more approachable, even for those new to the field.
