The journey continues as I cross the Connecticut River, marking Day 129 of my Appalachian Trail (AT) adventure. The excitement of entering New Hampshire is palpable, but the challenge of the final stretch looms ahead. The 9-mile hike through the woods in Norwich, Vermont, was a test of endurance, with mosquitoes buzzing relentlessly. The respite from the biting insects came as I stepped onto the road, where the town of Norwich offered a brief moment of tranquility. However, the trail's path led me north to the Connecticut River, and I soon found myself in Hanover, New Hampshire, the second-to-last state on the AT.
The Dartmouth College campus came into view, and I was reminded of the trail angels who provide invaluable support along the way. I took a detour to a woman's house in Hanover, where I was welcomed and offered a place to stay for two nights. Her generosity never fails to amaze me. After a much-needed shower and a thorough cleaning, I headed to the campus for dinner. The bustling atmosphere and the arrival of students for the new year created a vibrant contrast to the solitude of the woods.
As darkness fell, I bid farewell to Vermont, both mentally and physically. It was a challenging state, but its beauty will be missed. Now, I must push forward, ready to face the final stretch of the AT. The affiliate disclosure at the end of the post is a reminder of the support that makes these adventures possible.
This journey is a testament to the power of human kindness and the resilience of the human spirit. As I continue my trek, I am grateful for the support and encouragement from fellow hikers and trail angels. The AT is not just a physical challenge but also a journey of personal growth and discovery. I look forward to sharing more of my experiences as I make my way towards the final destination.
